Privacy policy
What we collect, why, how long we keep it and how to ask us to delete it. Written from what the site actually does.
Who is responsible for your data
This site, movetospain.io, is run by Gerardo Mora as a personal project. For anything about your data, write to movetoespain@gmail.com. There is no data protection officer: the site is small enough that the person who runs it answers directly.
What we collect, and why
Question form. When you send a question we keep your email, your name if you give one, the question itself, the language you wrote it in and the page you sent it from. We use it to answer you, to send you one confirmation email, and to decide which guides to write or improve. Legal basis: doing what you asked us to do, and our legitimate interest in improving the guides.
AI assistant. To answer a message you type in the assistant, we send that message, together with the earlier messages in the same conversation, to the AI provider that generates the reply: Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini) or DeepSeek, depending on which is available. We do not store your conversations on our servers. Your history is kept in your own browser's local storage so you can return to it; clearing your browser data deletes it. Do not put passport numbers, bank details or other sensitive information in a message: the assistant does not need them. Legal basis: providing the service you asked for.
Signing in. The assistant may ask you to sign in with a magic link. We keep your email and a session token so the link works and your session stays open for 30 days; the token lives in a cookie called movetospain_session. We do not send newsletters or marketing emails.
Usage statistics. We record which features are used: an event name (for example, that a question was sent or a visa wizard step was reached), the page path, and a random identifier that lives only while the browser tab is open and is discarded when you close it. No IP address, name or email is attached. Vercel, our hosting provider, adds aggregate page views and performance figures through Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights, which do not use cookies. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing which parts of the site are used.
Sworn translator directory. The directory republishes the official list of sworn translators and interpreters published by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs: name, languages, province or country, appointment date, official number and, where the Ministry publishes them, phone number and email. Our copy reflects the list as of May 2023. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in making a public professional register searchable, for people who need an official translation. If you are on the list and do not want to appear here, ask to be removed; you do not have to give a reason. Removal from this site does not change the Ministry's register, which we do not control.
Who processes data on our behalf
- Vercel: hosting and aggregate statistics.
- Neon: the database that holds questions, accounts and events.
- Resend: sending confirmation emails and login links.
- Anthropic, Google and DeepSeek: generating assistant replies.
Each processes data only to provide its service to us. Some are based in the United States, so some data may be processed outside the European Economic Area under the safeguards each provider offers and describes in its own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
- Questions: until answered and for up to 24 months afterwards, so we can follow up and spot recurring topics.
- Usage events: up to 12 months.
- Sessions: 30 days. Your account email stays until you ask us to delete it.
- Assistant conversations: we do not store them; your browser keeps them until you clear it.
- Directory: refreshed from the Ministry's list. A removal request is honoured permanently, including after later refreshes.
Cookies and browser storage
We set one cookie, movetospain_session, and only after you sign in to the assistant. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, and no cookie banner because none is needed. The site also uses your browser's local and session storage for the assistant's history and the per-tab statistics identifier; both stay on your device.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to our using it, or ask for a copy. Write to movetoespain@gmail.com; we answer within a month. If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).
Changes
This policy was last updated on 8 October 2026. If what we collect changes, we update this page and the date.
