Does Spain use the EES mobile app for pre-registration?

The question

Is Spain already using the EES app? When I try to enter my data, only Portugal and Sweden appear on the list. I will arrive in Madrid from Brazil in April 2026.

Our answer

Short answer: Yes, Spain is already using the EES system, but what you’re seeing is normal — the mobile app is not fully available for Spain yet.
  1. Is Spain using EES?
Yes.
The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) has been gradually implemented since October 2025
It became officially operational around April 2026 across Schengen countries, including Spain
However, implementation is still uneven and transitional in many countries (including Spain).
  1. About the EES mobile app
The app (sometimes called “Travel to Europe”) is not fully rolled out in all countries
It is only available where local border authorities have enabled it
That’s why you only see Portugal and Sweden — those countries have enabled the feature, but Spain has not fully integrated it yet.
  1. What will happen when you arrive in Madrid
Since the app is not required:
You do NOT need to pre-register in the app
You will complete the process at the airport
At Madrid airport, expect:
Passport scan
Fingerprints
Facial photo
This is done:
At a border officer desk, or
At a self-service kiosk (if available)
  1. Important: First entry may take longer
On your first entry into Schengen with EES:
Registration takes longer (biometrics are collected)
After that, future entries are faster
There have already been reports of delays at European airports during rollout, so it’s good to allow extra time.
  1. Do you need to do anything before travel?
No.
For your trip (Brazil → Madrid on April 22, 2026):
No app required
No pre-registration required
Just bring:
Valid passport
Travel documents (if applicable)
Summary
Spain is using EES, but rollout is still ongoing
The mobile app is not fully available for Spain yet
You will complete registration at the airport on arrival
Expect possible delays on first entry
Note: This system is still evolving, and procedures may change slightly as countries complete implementation.
If you want, I can also explain how EES affects your 90/180-day stay tracking, which is important for future trips.
